We often see a capacitive touch sensor in a few years.
The capacitance of an electrode itself varies with its dimension and geometry. I analyzed it with an electromagnetic simulator, which RF engineers often use.
- A planar capacitor analysis by EM simulator
A planar capacitor--a parallel-plate capacitor is seen in a textbook of electromagnetics. But I have scarcely seen modified ones other than the basic type. For example, the electrodes of a capacitor are horizontally shifted or have different sizes or shapes from the other one. I analyzed the variation of capacitance of a planar capacitor.
- Calculation of resistance of an arbitrary-shape metal sheet by EM simulator
It is difficult to calculate the resistance of an arbitrary-shaped metal sheet. But with an EM simulator, we can easily know it. Here I show an example to calculate the resistance of a metal sheet with an EM simulator.
- 'Mr. Smith'--An Impedance Calculator on the Smith Chart
'Mr. Smith' is a calculator of impedance on the Smith Chart. It displays traces of impedance objects on the Smith Chart as you draw traces on a sheet of paper-form Smith Chart with a pencil. It eliminates paper-form Smith Chart in designing a reactance circuit.
